Level 1

Clearer communication for work and study — reading for detail and writing structured texts.

Confident reading, writing and spoken communication — widely accepted as an alternative to a GCSE grade 4 by many colleges and employers.

Functional Skills Mathematics

Whole numbers, money, time and basic measures applied to familiar situations.

Level 1

Fractions, decimals, percentages and handling data for real-world problems.

Level 2

Ratio, proportion, area, and interpreting statistics — broadly equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 for many colleges and employers.

Who it’s for. Functional Skills are primarily a Key Stage 4 option — a route to a recognised English and Maths qualification alongside, or instead of, the IGCSE. Entry Level 3 also suits Key Stage 3 learners building confidence. Within Latitude they sit on the Consolidation route, beside the Foundation lane.
